Psychotherapy for real life

You don’t have to perform here.

A warm, curious place where you can feel heard and talk honestly about what matters to you. You are more than a diagnosis, and I will not analyze you from a distance.

Hi, I’m Ben Registered Psychotherapist · PhD, MA he / him

Life is messy. Therapy can be a place where neither of us pretends otherwise.

How I work

Human first.
Science when it helps.

I’m a humanistic therapist. For me, the relationship we build matters more than trying to fit your experience into a fixed framework. I’ll listen closely to how you see and feel things, and I’ll be a real person in the room with you.

I also have a PhD in neuroscience and have spent years studying how the brain learns and regulates itself. That background can help us make sense of what you are going through, but your own experience will always guide our work. Sometimes the most important thing is not an explanation, but feeling understood, accepted, and taken seriously.

Authentic Non-judgmental Curious Collaborative

My approach

We can start with what is happening now.

You do not need to have a clear goal before you reach out. We can begin with what has been difficult lately and work from there. Sessions are $175 for 60 minutes.

02

Relationship therapy

For partners, friends, family members, lovers, situationships, and other relationships that matter to you. Everyone gets room to speak, and we can begin talking about what has been difficult to say.

03

Children & teens

A respectful place for young people to make sense of their feelings, relationships, identity, and a world that keeps changing. I work alongside them, without talking down to them.

Neurofeedback therapy

Real-time feedback for the brain.

Neurofeedback uses EEG to measure brain activity and turn it into simple visual feedback, similar to the way a smartwatch displays your heart rate. With practice, this feedback may help you learn to regulate your mental state.

A transparent view of the evidence

Some people notice real improvement, including people living with ADHD or PTSD, but there is no guarantee that it will help. Neurofeedback is not currently a standard first treatment for any major clinical condition. Before we use it, we will talk plainly about the evidence, its limits, and whether it makes sense for you.

A little about me

A little about the person in the other chair.

I came to Canada from Chengdu when I was 17. Ontario gradually became home, first in North Bay, then London and Ottawa, and now Mississauga. I know what it feels like to arrive somewhere unfamiliar, figure out the rules no one explains, and keep rethinking what home means to you.

Over the years, I’ve realized that I have quite a few different sides. Sometimes I can happily spend an entire afternoon studying brain imaging, experiments, and programming, or playing competitive games. At other times, I prefer things to be quiet. I want to slow down, connect with people, understand myself and others, or play something more relaxing. Therapy brings these sides together. Sometimes we need to think things through carefully, and sometimes we need room to let our emotions out.

Outside work, I am an outdoor-friendly nerd. I like video and card games, and I also love the Canadian outdoors and the smell of campfires. I do not have life perfectly figured out, and I will never expect you to pretend that you do.
